Food and Water

Climate Change is threatening the availability of water as aquifers worldwide are being depleted.  Agriculture currently consumes 70% of water globally.

The Anthropocene Institute is supporting agricultural innovations such as Farmecology that require less water, are organic, have zero-runoff and higher productivity per acre.   If deployed on a large scale, technologies like these can go a long way towards alleviating drought, eliminating runoff into oceans, providing a scalable, sustainable source of food while freeing up land for nature.

Wildcaught fishing depletes the oceans since for every pound of fish caught, 5 are disposed as bycatch.  Aquaculture can generate protein efficiently, but if it uses wildcaught fish as a production input, can also deplete ocean resources.  New Wave Foods offers a flavorful vegetarian substitute for shrimp that is sustainable.
